Logging and forest decline effects on the surface humus horizons in the Sumava Mts.
2006
Podrazsky, V.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of forest removal or tree layer extinction on soil chemistry, respiration, ammonification and nitrification. A flat and well-watered terrain was examined by standard pedological methods. The stands with removed or dead trees showed increased intensity of nitrification and ammonification, increased P concentrations, and decreased Mg concentrations. N and Ca concentrations increased in humus layers, which was caused by the concentration effect. The sorption complex increased as well.
