An increased spate of serious invasive pests have been seen in the Caribbean the last few years. Several possible causes for this apparent trend are explored. In many instances, biological control is often the most appropriate strategy for management of such exotic pests. The challenges for implementing biological control in the Caribbean are discussed. It is noted that many countries lack proper quarantine facilities. In addition increased concerns about the possible impact of biological control agents on non-target organisms present new challenges in terms of pre-introductory assessments.
