Effects of decreasing no.of water application after harvest on pistachio trees growth and Yield.

In this study the effects of post harvest irrigation cut off (from October to February of years 1998- 2001) on mature pistachio trees, was investigated. This experiment was carried out on 20 years aged trees in pistachio research institute of Kerman with a sandy loam soil and 3.0 dSm-1 irrigation water. The treatments of this study in three replications were as follow: T1 = Check, (Normal irrigation). T2 = Irrigation cut off through October to January . T3 = Irrigation cut off through November to February. T4 = Two irrigations cut off in October and January. T5= Three irrigations cut off from October to February. Normal irrigation interval was 45 days and the depth of irrigation for each time was 11.25 cm in all seasons. This study was laid out in a Randomized Completely Blocks (RCB), design in three replications. The results showed that, full irrigation schedule after harvest has a small effect on pistachio yield quality and quantity, indeed statistically insignificant. Besides of this fact, that the effect of treatments on different parameters is insignificant, but T4, was the best . Computing of WUE (water use efficiency), showed that for check treatment (T1), the value is less than the others. For example maximum and minimum yield were obtained for T1 and T4 treatments, 144 and 217 gram pistachio respectively with used each cubic meter of irrigation water. In the other hand , due to soil salinity , if leaching is required, then the best time would be November .
