This study analyses the impact of Farmer Field Schools(FFS) pilot project on biological control against rice stripped stem borer(Chilo suppressalis). Data, were collected through a standardized questionnaire whereby three groups of farmers were interviewed before and after training. . The groups were: 1) farmers of Kohnehdan and Milleh Villages from Amol city,2 ) farmers of Aliabad village from Nor city, 3) farmers of Rangrizmahalleh village from Joybar city in where rice stripped stem borer are controlled chemical method, biological method at first time in 2002 and boilogical method for several years, respectively. Before training, all farmers of three villages and after training, participating farmers, were interviewed. The analysis was performed by applying nonparametric astatistics models (Kolmogorv Smironov, Wilcoxon, Macnemar, Kruskal-Wallis), and multiple variables regression. The analysis was performed in two steps, first the factors affecting participation of farmers in the training in Mazandaran province. It was found that, hectares in crop, better IPM knowledge , years of education and age are the main factors determining participation. also, observations indicate that opportunity cost of labor and social norms affect on participation of farmers . In the second step, to evaluate the impact of project FFS activities on farmers' knowledge and awareness. The result of this step indicate that more active farmer participation increased knowledge of IPM. This provides preliminary support for participatory research and extension approach being used by the project.
