Evaluation of rootstocks for Valencia orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck; Cyprus]

Английский. A trial was undertaken in Cyprus to evaluate tree size, yield, yield efficiency and fruit quality of Valencia orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] using 15 rootstocks. Cumulative yield, over 19 years of production, was highest in rough lemon, followed by that in Volkamer lemon, Estes rough lemon, Rangpur lime, Palestine sweet lime, Red rough lemon and Cleopatra mandarin. Cumulative yields in sour orange, Nasnaran, Yuma citrange, Swingle citrumelo, Troyer citrange and Carrizo citrange ranked next in order, followed by those in Morton citrange and C. taiwanica. The largest trees were sour orange and the smallest Troyer and Carrizo citranges. Rootstock affected fruit size and weight, rind thickness, juice content, Brix, total acids and Brix : acid ratio. At present, sour orange is the most commonly used rootstock for the commercial cultivation of Valencia orange, but it is highly susceptible to tristeza. Results showed that Carrizo and Troyer citranges, Volkamer lemon, Cleopatra mandarin and Nasnaran are very promising as alternative rootstocks

[E´ stata condotta una prova a Cipro per valutare la taglia della pianta, la resa, l´efficienza di produzione e la qualità dei frutti dell´arancio Valencia [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] utilizzando 15 portinnesti. La produzione cumulativa, nel corso di 19 annate produttive, è risultata massima con il limone rugoso, seguita dal limone Volkamer, dal limone rugoso Estes, dalla limetta Rangpur, dalla limetta dolce Palestine, dal limone rugoso Red e dal mandarino Cleopatra. Le produzioni cumulative sui portinnesti arancio amaro, Nasnaran, citrange Yuma, citrumelo Swingle, citrange Troyer e Carrizo seguivano nell´ordine, seguite da quelle su citrange Morton e C. taiwanica. Le piante più grandi sono risultate quelle innestate su arancio amaro e quelle più piccole su citrange Troyer e Carrizo. Il portinnesto ha influenzato la pezzatura e il peso dei frutti, lo spessore della buccia, il contenuto di succo, il Brix, gli acidi totali e il rapporto Brix : acidi. Attualmente l´arancio amaro è il portinnesto maggiormente utilizzato per la coltivazione commerciale dell´arancio Valencia, ma questo portinnesto è altamente suscettibile alla tristeza. I risultati hanno dimostrato che i citrange Carrizo e Troyer, il limone Volkamer, il mandarino Cleopatra e il Nasnaran sono promettenti come portinnesti alternativi.]
