Severe infestations of Platypus cylindrus Fabricius (Coleoptera Platypodidae) in some Sardinian cork oak forests [Quercus suber Kotschy]

Английский. During the summer of 2003, unexpected and huge pullulation of Platypus cylindrus Fabricius was observed in some Sardinian Quercus suber L. forests. Surveys carried out in debarked cork oak forests during this period indicate that those of the Orune plateau, degraded to wooded pasture, were subjected to particularly severe attacks: in 5 of the 12 plots surveyed, more than 10% of trees were found to be infested, with a peak of 24%. In the Mandrolisai region, where cork oak forests are prevalently clumped, of differing ages and with a good degree of renewal, beetle attack had affected 19% of trees in one case, only 2-3% of trees in 3 other plots, while in 3 further plots no presence of infested oaks was found. P. cylindrus infestation is believed to have been facilitated by tree debilitation caused by low Spring and Summer precipitations in 2003 (with a reduction of over 120 mm in rainfall between March and August compared to average precipitation over the 30-year period 1961-90), as well as by subsequent debarking. A proposal for integrated control is therefore being considered, based on: postponing debarking in dry years or years in which trees have been defoliated by Lepidoptera; treating decorticated trunks with synthetic pyretroids to kill adults; employing cork stripping equipment that prevents wounds to phellogen, which are favoured access points for P. cylindrus adults on cork tree trunks
Показать больше [+] Меньше [-]итальянский. Si riportano i risultati sui rilievi compiuti nel 2003 su una grave infestazione di Platypus cylindrus Fabricius in aree subericole della Sardegna. L´attacco è stato particolarmente intenso nelle sugherete dell´altopiano di Orune, dove ha interessato fino al 24% delle piante decorticate. Nell´area di Mandrolisai, dove le sugherete sono prevalentemente cespugliate, disetanee e con un buon grado di rinnovazione, l´attacco ha interessato il 19% delle piante in un caso, solo il 2-3% in altre 3 parcelle, mentre in ulteriori 3 non è stata riscontrata alcuna infestazione. Si ritiene che gli attacchi del Platipodide siano stati favoriti dalla debilitazione delle piante indotta sia dalla notevole siccità primaverile-estiva (con una riduzione di oltre 120 mm di pioggia fra marzo e agosto rispetto alle precipitazioni medie del trentennio 1961-90), sia dal successivo intervento di decortica. Si propone un´ipotesi di lotta integrata allo xilofago basata: sul rinvio dell´estrazione del sughero negli anni siccitosi o nei quali le piante hanno subito la defogliazione ad opera di lepidotteri; il trattamento dei tronchi decorticati con piretroidi di sintesi per abbattere gli adulti del coleottero; l´uso di attrezzature per il taglio del sughero che evitino di produrre ferite sul fellogeno, che risultano punti d´ingresso privilegiato degli adulti di P. cylindrus nel tronco delle sughere
