Aetiology, epidemiology and control of the main diseases of walnut in Italy [Juglans regia L.; Juglans nigra L.]

Английский. Walnut (Juglans regia and J. nigra) is subjected to a number of diseases that limit its yield and growth. In the present work, attention is given not only to diseases that are historically associated to this culture, such as blight, anthracnose and downy leaf spot, but also to emerging diseases that are recently spreading in our Country, causing heavy economic losses. Brown apical necrosis, which is a complex disease associated to several fungal genera (Fusarium, Alternaria, Colletotrichum and Phomopsis), is becoming an important cause of fruit drop and yield loss. The spread of declining and death in walnut plantations caused by Phytophthora spp., in particular P. cinnamomi, is reaching an alarming frequency. It is likely that the incidence of Phytophthora decline and death of walnut is underestimated as the disease often goes undetected as symptoms can be misinterpreted, being very similar to the ones caused by drought or nutritional deficiency. Also the occurrence of the bacterial bark canker, caused by Brenneria nigrifluens, is increasing, though its damage is evident in not well managed plantations. Due to the high vigour of the genus Juglans, most of the diseases and their severity could be limited by an appropriate management of the plantations and by adopting preventive measures. Показать больше [+] Меньше [-]итальянский. In questo lavoro vengono descritte le principali malattie che colpiscono il noce (Juglans regia e J. nigra) nel nostro Paese. Sebbene la batteriosi sia presente in tutte le zone di coltivazione, non è da considerarsi una malattia preoccupante in climi mediterranei. Desta, invece, una certa preoccupazione l'avvento e la diffusione della necrosi apicale bruna (NAB), malattia complessa, associata a diversi generi fungini, quali Fusarium, Alternaria, Colletotrichum e Phomopsis, che causa la cascola dei frutti. Anche la diffusione di casi di deperimento e moria di noci dovuti ad attacchi di Phytophthora spp., in particolare P. cinnamomi, desta una certa preoccupazione per l'elevata capacità di diffusione e l'impossibilità di eradicazione. II cancro batterico della corteccia, causato da Brenneria nigrifluens, è in forte recrudescenza specialmente in quegli impianti soggetti a poche cure. Le altre malattie, anche se storicamente legate a questa coltura, non sembrano destare preoccupazione, sia per le buone possibilità di successo assicurate da interventi con adeguati trattamenti chimici, come per l'antracnosi, sia per la sporadicità degli attacchi che riguardano il seccume lanuginoso causato da Microstroma juglandis. Data l'elevata vigoria del genere Juglans, la maggior parte delle fitopatie e la gravità dei loro attacchi potrebbero essere gestite mantenendo la coltura in adeguate condizioni di sviluppo
