Because of the decrease of fossil energy resource, need to find alternative energy sources are on the rise. More and more companies are starting to use renewable plant community resources in various stages of production, including fuel production. One of the examples of renewable energy is bio-ethanol that is produced by using plant species with high carbohydrate (starch, sugar) content. Most suitable wheat varieties for bioethanol production in Latvia's meteorological conditions are 'Kosack', 'Pamjati Fedina', and triticale varieties - 'Woltario' and 'Dinaro'.
