In 1995-97 studies were conducted in the collection of meliferous plants, in the ISK Pulawy (Poland). The period and abundance of flowering as well as the pollen productivity of 3 species from genus Salvia L. were estimated. The frequency of flower visitation by insects was monitored. Daily dynamics of flower opening of the 3 investigated species were similar. Flower buds opened only during day-time. The longevity of flowers was 3 days for S. officinalis and S. verticillata, and about 4 days for S. nemorosa. One hundred flowers of S. officinalis produced 33.38 mg of pollen, while that of S. verticillata and S. nemorosa was only 8.75 and 1.25 mg. The 1 ha area planted with S. verticillata gave 51.6 kg of pollen, while that with S. officinalis and S. nemorosa was only 40.7 and 13.1 kg, respectively. Pollinators of the investigated plants were mostly honey bees visiting flowers mainly for nectar
