On the basis of two five-year field experiments the effect of environmental conditions on the variability of the content of endogenous amino acids (arginine, alanine, glycine, glutamine acid, proline, aspartic acid and serine) in the grain of 3 varieties of winter triticale: Grado, Presto and Ugo, and 2 varieties of spring triticale: Jago and Maja, was estimated. The effect of varieties (genotypes) and their interaction with the environment (5 successive years, in the sense of diverse weather conditions) on the content of endogenous amino acids, was estimated by means of the analysis of variance for multiple experiments and the Tukey's test. One of the stability parameters, namely the coefficient of variability, was also calculated. The content of most endogenous amino acids in triticale grain, in case of both the winter and spring form, was determined by varieties (genotypes). A significantly higher content of these compounds was found mainly in the winter variety Ugo and spring Maja. The reaction of the varieties on changing environmental conditions (apart from arginine, in case of which such a reaction was not observed) also varied. The highest stability of the concentration of endogenous amino acids, among the investigated genotypes, was characteristic of the winter variety Ugo and spring Jago, whereas winter Presto and spring Maja were the most sensitive to changeable environmental conditions. The evaluation of the genotype, including both yielding potential and the variability of usable characteristics of individual varieties in given soil-climatic conditions, makes it possible to select genotypes suitable for cultivation as well as for further breeding
