The effects of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids on fatty acid composition of lipids in chicken meat - sunflower and soybean oil

Chicken feed was supplemented of 4% of sunflower oil (group Su) and 4% of soybean oil (group So) and compared to control with corn in the diet instead of supplemented oils. Samples of meat were analyzed by gas chromatographic method at the age of 42 days. Nine fatty acids were detected. Using of sunflower and soybean oil decreased of presence of some saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids compared to control, including fatty acids with atherogenic effect. Presence of fatty acids with positive metabolic effects such as linoleic, increased in both group Su and So, and linolenic increased in So. There are significant advances in using plant oils in chicken diet and future investigations are necessary to determine the best combination of oil added.
