In this trial were investigated eight fertilization variants with increasing doses of N, P2O5 and K2O (control, N100P100, N100K100, N50P100K100, N100P100K100, N100P150K150, N150P100K100, N150P150K150). The subject of this investigation were two sugar beet cultivars; in year 2002 - Sara and NS-Hy-8R and in the year 2003 - Sara and Drena. Dynamics of formation of fresh mass yield was investigated. Formation of root fresh mass yield in the both years was uniform, with the highest root mass increasing in period from 15 June - 15 July (in 2002) and in the period 15 July - 20 August (in 2003). The highest amounts of fertilizers did not give the highest fresh root mass yield. The highest yield in year 2002, was achieved at the variants N100P150K150, but referring to variant N100P100K100, the difference was not significant. The highest amounts (150 kg/ha) of NPK nutrients referring to the medium amount (100 kg/ha) decreased yield for 4.6%. In the year 2003 the highest yield of fresh root mass was achieved at the variant with the highest amounts of NPK nutrients. Difference referring to variant N100P100K100 was not significant. At the medium amounts (100 kg/ha) of phosphorus and potassium, for optimal fertilization low amount of nitrogen was enough.
