Phytoplasmas belonging to different ribosomal groups are associated with grapevine yellows. All phytoplasmas on grapevine can cause identical or very similar symptoms and they cannot be distinguished on the basis of symptoms. The most common symptoms of grapevine yellows are: leaf roll, yellowing or reddening of leaves, lack of lignification and berry withering. Grapevine yellows syndrome can be caused by phytoplasmas belonging to seven different ribosomal groups. The most important grapevine yellows in Europe are flavescence doree, associated with phytoplasmas belonging to 16SrV ribosomal group, and bois noir, associated with phytoplasmas belonging to 16SrXII ribosomal group. Besides flavescence doree and bois noir, other phytoplasmas can cause grapevine yellows - other grapevine yellows, but they are less important. Three phytoplasmas were detected on grapevine in Serbia, flavescence doree, bois noir and European stone fruit yellow.
