Thalji, R.(Poljoprivredni fakultet, Novi Sad (Serbia))
Among the pests reported which attack sunflower crops in Serbia, especially in the Vojvodina Province, the most important sunflower growing area in Serbia, the aphids are one of the major harmful pests. Two species of aphids are more important, the first one is the plum curl aphids (Brachycaudus helichrysi Kalt) and the second one the black sugar beet aphids (Aphis fabae Scop.). Sometimes these two species cause a serious damage to sunflower. In certain years the first one may be appear in a great intensity but the second one may not. Aphid may be found to attack sunflower every year in Vojvodina but in varying intensity. The intensity of infestation depends on the number of alatae which migrate from the winter host plants to sunflower, the climatic conditions and on the activity of natural enemies.
