Bioagents of yellow gentian (Gentiana lutea L.)

Yellow gentian is a 1.5-m tall volunteer perennial herbage plant growing on alpine meadows and pastures. It is distributed at the altitudes of 800 to 2500 m. It can be found almost on all Serbian mountains: Kopaonik, Rajac, Suvobor, Goc, Tara, Stara Planina, Zlatibor.....Uncontrolled exploitation has almost led to its extinction and therefore it is now protected. In order to stop its total destruction and to develop drug of uniform quality and stable yield, and considering its significance for the pharmaceutical industry, the cultivation of yellow gentian has been increasing.The present study shows results on the presence of bioagents on yellow gentian seeds, as well as, on the plant itself in the natural resources. During growing season the following insects causing economic damages were found in the above ground plant parts: Aphis phabae, Philenus spumarius, Dolycoris baccarum, Nezara viridula, Noctuidae spp., Species of the families Acrididae and Tettigonidae were also observed. The following disease pathogens were detected on yellow gentian seeds: Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxisporum, Botritis cinerea, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium spp. Gained information are important for taking measures of protection of yellow gentian in the plantation cultivation.
