Winter rye in SCG [Serbia and Montenegro] - achievements and prospects

The present paper deals with results of investigations of new winter diploid cultivar of rye Rasa in micro-trials in Kragujevac (Serbia) during 2001-2005 and in trials of Cultivars Approval Commission at 6 locations during 2002/2003 and 2003/2004. Rye cultivar Rasa originates from crosses of Animo (rye) x Lasko (triticale), as revertant in breeding program of winter triticale. It is the first cultivar of winter rye created in Serbia and Montenegro, as result of rye breeding in Center for Small Grains in Kragujevac (Serbia). Winter rye cv. Rasa distinguishes with high grain yield, middle low stem height, high resistance to lodging and low temperatures. Besides of that, cv. Rasa demonstrated its high resistance to the most important diseases, high tolerance to insects and drought conditions. Its grain distinguishes with high content of protein and numerous desirable technological performances.
