Effect of Bradyrhizobium spp. inoculation and NP fertilizer on grain yield of green gram (Vigna radiata L. Walczek)

Effects of inoculation and NP fertilizer with inoculation on characteristics and grain yield of Vigna radiata were investigated in a field trial on chernozem soil. The application of inoculum containing specific effective strains of Bradyrhizobium spp. (5388 and 2801) was found to have positive effect on plant characteristics of Vigna radiata in terms of nodulation, plant height, number of pods per plant and grains per pod, grain weight, grain yield per plant, total N content in grain and the amount of N fixed from the atmosphere. Strain 2801 was found to be more effective than strain 5388 both regarding Vigna radiata characteristics and increase in grain yield and amount of N fixed in the grain. Grain yield increase was 57% for strain 2801 against the untreated control, and 52% for strain 5388. The percentage of fixed N in total N content in grains was 60.12% for strain 2801 and 55.29% for strain 5388. The applied rates of N and NP (N40P20) combined with strain 2801 inoculation demostrated the highest positive effect on plant characteristics, as well as grain yield and total N content in Vigna radiata grains.
