Grapevine selection at the Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Sremski Karlovci, Serbia, first developed as crossing autochthonous (continental) cultivars with high quality cultivars originating from Western Europe. This selection resulted in creation of approved cultivars Zupljanka, Sila and Nova Dinka. In order to examine the grapevine cultivars further, they were grafted on different grapevine rootstocks (Teleki 50, Kober 5BB and SO4) and examined under field conditions over a period of several years. The eleven-year results show that grapevine rootstocks and cultivars affect the properties to a great extent. Grape yield as well as the vegetative potential are significantly higher when grafted on SO4 and K5BB. Sugar content in must was much higher in cultivars grafted on rootstock T5C, accompanied by a significantly lower grape yield. Cultivars Zupljanka and Sila had a higher yield, much abundant vines, and a higher sugar content in grapes comparing to cultivar Nova Dinka. In conclusion, cultivars Zupljanka and Sila are more suitable for growing, preferably grafted on rootstocks SO4 and K5BB.
