The paper emphasizes the importance of harvest residues in the cycling of carbon and other nutrients in the agroecosystem from the standpoint of soil fertility protection, especially in the situation of insufficient application of organic fertilizers. Simulataneously, the paper ponts out the positive aspects of the use of plant biomass as an alternative renewable source of energy.
