To accomplish effectively crop irrigation management, it is important to know water requirements at different management levels within the irrigated area. A simulation model CRIWAR makes it possible to calculate irrigation water requirement of a cropping patern in an irrigated area using general data of area under irrigation, meteorological data and those of crop as input data. Irrigation water requirements consist of two components: potential evapotranspiration minus effective precipitation. Output data can be presented in the form of tables or graphically. Two methods were used to determine potential evapotranspiration. The model can also be a helpful tool in the management of operational irrigation projects with frequent changing of cropping patterns and in the studies on performance assessment of irrigation projects. This work presents the application of the simulation model to determination of requirements of grassland for irrigation water in chosen area of the lower Vah river catchment.
