The effect of deficit, effective and excessive doses of nitrogen on selected radish yield parameters has been studied in a three years' small-plot trial realized in a greenhouse with mechanical air-conditioning and irrigation. It was revealed that the deficit nutrition resulted in statistically significant decrease of creation of under-ground biomass. It has also negatively influenced the content of several studied nutrients (N, K, Ca, Mg, Na, Cu, Zn, Fe and Mn) in radish bulbs. On the other hand, it has positively, though not significantly increased vitamin C content and significantly decreased the level of nitrates. The excessive nitrogenous nutrition caused significant increase of leaf biomass, decrease of bulb yield, increase of nitrate contents and decrease of vitamin C content in bulbs. Excessive N doses have positively influenced the intake of all studied nutrients except for phosphorus. In the plants that were excessively fertilized was found higher content of water than in the ones that were fertilized effectively. Effective nitrogenous fertilization resulted in the highest bulb yield with satisfying qualitative parameters. The effectiveness of this fertilizing was the highest. One Slovak crown invested in the purchase and application of N fertilizers has returned 89.68 Sk for bulbs.
