Assessment of growth characteristics of chosen combinations of apple tree nursery material

Vegetative properties of the selected apple tree nursery stocks were examined in the years 2002 and 2003 on the experimental plot of the Department of breeding and propagation of garden plants, in Zabcice. There were evaluated combinations of the rootstocks (J-OH-A, MM 106, M 9, J-TE-E) with Jonagoid, Red Elstar, Golden Delicious Reinders', Bohemia, Angold, Rubinola, Topaz and Jarka apple varieties. These charakteristics were evalueated: rooting of the grafting plants in nursery, dynamics of the growth, intensity of the roostock young growth, overall lenght of the shoots, trunk thickness, nursery stock utilization, formation of the generative zone and growth character of the individual combinations. The worst shooting of the grafting plants were with rootstock M 9 (86 and 66%), the highest dispersion of the plant height bring rootstocks MM 106. Higher variability of the plant height after first year was reduced in the second year and the evidential differences were not found out. Evidential higher values were evaluated with combination with rootstock MM 106 and Jonagold variety. Rootstock J-OH-A had the biggest young growth. From the nursery point of view, varieties Angold, Bohemia, Jonagoid and Jarka require more attention.
