This study examine the status of protected areas and management objectives. The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) has developed a six category system of protected areas identified by their primary management objective. Protected areas are established primarily to preserve biodiversity but this is far from the sole purpose, some scientists emphasised the economic importance of land managed for conservation objectives. However, the key question is whether the responsible authorities have the capacity to manage their protected areas effectively and such as the questions are of great concern on international level as well on local level.
