Potato leaf spot and early blight is economically very important disease in almost all potato production areas. Disease is caused by plant pathogenic fungus, Alternaria solani, pathogenic also for tomato and pepper. Intensive foliar symptoms appear after blooming, on older leaves and if left uncontrolled plants can soon become defoliated. Tubers are usually infected during harvesting. Alternaria solani is soil borne and can be transmitted from previous crops or wild host plants. Disease management should be integral, including cultral control, growing resistant cultivars and foliar fungicide application.
