The agricultural policy of Serbia during the period of transition

Based on the experience so far, reforms in the agricultural sector have been the principal issue of transition irrespective of the importance of the sector for the economic structure of the country. Taking into account the importance of agricultural economy for the national economy and social stability in Serbia the problem has been gaining in importance over the past few years. In general, the agricultural budget has been increased over the past five years followed by the diversification of the measures of support financing agricultural development. The basic system change regarding the mode of implementation of state funding was focused on the imposed requirement to register farms starting with 2004. The aim of the study was to give an overview of the principal structural, institutional and conceptual changes and trends in the agricultural policy of Serbia over the past few years (2000-2005).
