We evaluated the egg performance of the meat type Japanese quail. We used the generation S9 of the meat line 08 and of a non-selected control meat line 09 from our experimental flock of Japanese quail in the experiment. We observed individual egg production in 38 layers of each line (76 layers in total) daily during 5 weeks, from 38th to 42nd week of layers' age. We evaluated the number of laid eggs (pieces), egg weight (g), and weight of produced egg contents (g) per layer and week (table I). The average number of laid eggs per layer and week was 6.08 pieces with line 08 (intensity of laying 86.9 %), 6.12 pieces with line 09 (intensity of laying 87.4 %). The average egg weight in line 08 was 13.1 g, and 11.9 with line 09. The difference between lines was very highly significant. Variability in egg weight was by half lower than with the number of laid eggs, coefficient of variation with line 08 was 5.6 %, and 5.3 % with line 09. Weight of produced egg contents per one layer and week was 79.8 g with line 08, and 72.4 g with line 09. The difference was very highly significant. Number of laid eggs per layer and week correlated very weakly and non-significantly with weight of laid eggs, namely with the line 08 as well as with the line 09 (table II). Correlation of number of laid eggs with weight of produced egg contents per layer and week were very strong, positive and very highly significant (0.914 with line 08, 0.916 with line 09, and 0.856 for both lines). Egg weight correlated with weight of produced egg contents per layer and week positively, medium strongly and very highly significantly (0.404 with line 08, 0.301 with line 09, and 0.742 for both lines together).
