Study on the efficacy of neem seed extract formulated by DOA on aphid in mungbean

Efficacy of neem seed extract formulated by the Department of Agriculture (DOAs neem) on aphid, Aphis craccivora Koch., in mungbean was investigated, The experiment were conducted in a glasshouse of Chai Nat Field Crops Reseaech Center during June-July 1999. The DOA neem at conc. of Aza A 20-100 ppm were sprayed to intact mungbean plants (V2-stage) planted in pots compared with the spraying of aqueous neem seed kernel extract (NSKE) at conc. of 2.5 percent (w/v) (containing Aza 30 ppm) , NSKE at conc. of 5.0 percent (W/V) (containing) Aza A 55 ppm), carbosulfan 20 percent EC at the dosage of 50 ml/20 liter of water, water, and untreated, Ten aphids were released on each mungbean plant representing one replication either at 1 day before spraying or immediately after the solutions sprayed had dried. Both experiments were condcted using randomized complete block design with 6 replications, The results revealed that all neem extracts tested had moderate efficacy in reducing the reproduction of aphid at particularly high concentrations. The DOA neem at conc. of Aza A 80 ppm sprayed on mungbean after the releasing of the aphids can significantly reduce the increasing of aphid population at 7 days after spraying by 48 percent. The SIA neem at conc. of Aza A 60 ppm sprayed on mungbean before the releasing of the aphids can significantly reduce the increasing of aphid population at 7 days after spraying by 76 percent. The NSKE at conc. of 2.5-5.0 percent (W/V) sprayed on mungbean after the releasing of the aphids and before the releasing of the aphids could reduce the increasing of the aphid population at 7 days after spraying between 20-30 percent and 60-70 percent. However, the spraying of carbosulfan can completely kill aphids (100 percent) in both experiments.
