Effect of ration and fattening period on carcass characteristics and production costs of crossbred native chicken

Study on effects of ration and fattening period on carcass characteristics and production costs of Crossbred Native (ShanghaixRhodexBarr) or NSRB chicken was conducted as 2*3 factorial in RCBD with 8 replications. Fifty-six numbers with 14 weeks of age of female chicks were used. The chicks were fed ad lib with 2 kinds of dietary: 1) concentrate with 13 percent protein and 3,060 kcl/kg of metabolizale energy 2) concentrate with 97 percent of corn (7.8 percent protein and 3,280 kcl/kg of metabolizable energy). The fattening period were 28, 42 and 56 day respectively. The chicks were fed individually and were studied carcass traits at the end. The results shown that NSRB chicks which received 13 percent protein of concentrate had better performances and carcass traits than the group received concentrate with 97 percent of corn (P LT 0.05). Different of fattening periods had not affected on average daily gain and feed intake but has significant different on body weight, feed conversion ratio feed cost per kilogram of weight gain and carcass traits (P LT 0.05). The chicks used 56 days of fattening gave higher body weight and carcass traits than other groups. No significant different on feed conversion ratio and feed cost per kilogram of weight gain between the groups that used 42 and 56 days of fattening and also better than the group used 28 days of fattening (P LT 0.05). Various of dietary and fattening period were effect to meat quality. The chicks received 13 protein of concentrate has higher protein quality of chest than the group received concentrate with 97 percent of corn (P LT 0.05). The longer fattening period has significantly decreased protein quality of chest. Fourteen weeks of age of NSRB chicks fed with 13 percent protein concentrate and used 56 days of fattening could produced good performance and good carcass traits by the cash return was 48.90 percent of investment which gave higher benefit from other groups.
