Forty young bulls of Kamphangsaen beef breed, which were averagely 249 days old, were nationwidely selected to take part in performance test at Kasetsart University at Kamphangsaen in 1999 for 120 days. In individual feeding pen where young bulls were fed with total mixed ration containing 17 percent protein and 77 percent TDN it was found that average daily was 1.40 kg/day and feed efficiency was averagely 5.58 from data of the performance test and other significant data such as birth weight, weaning weight, scrotal circumference, hip height, body length as well as external appearance of theses young bulls, 20 percent of top characteristics were used to specify the standards of excellence of Kamphangsaen beef breed and the criteria to select 15 young bulls for semen production were determined by using cumulative average point of each characteristic of the bulls. The data of the bulls selected were as follows average daily gain was 1.57 kg/day, feed efficiency was 4.99 and cumulative average point of each characteristic was 3.58. Ten young bulls are now being raised in Kasetsart University at Kamphangsaen to produce semen while the rest of five bulls are being raised at Lamphaya klang beef semen production center. Semen from these young bulls are to be used in further research and the rest are to be used in beef breeding for general farmers.
