Objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameter of semen production traits in Al bulls such as semen volume, semen concentration, sperm motility, total number of sperm per ejaculate, and total number of motile sperm per ejaculate. Variance components and genetic parameters of these semen production traits were estimated by using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) applied to an animal model that was derived using the mixed procedure of SAS from the records sampled between the year 1999 and 2002. Heritability for semen volume, semen concentration, sperm motility, total number of sperm per ejaculate, and total number of motile sperm per ejaculate were 0.10, 0.33, 0.22, 0.11, and 0.13 respectively. Repeatabilities of semen traits were 0.23, 0.44, 0.39, 0.29 and 0.28 respectively. The genetic and phenotypic correlation between semen production traits varied from-0.97 to 0.99 and from-0.13 to 0.94. These findings indicated that genetics characteristics clearly contribute to semen production and, thus, should also consider the semen production traits in Al bull selection.
