Study on hepatozoon treatment in mangrove snakes (Boiga dendrophila melanota)

Research studied in Hepatozoon infestration of Mangrove snakes (Boiga dendrophila melanota) in Queen Saovabha Memorial Institue, the Thai Red Cross Society to find the efficiency of Hapatozoon anti-infestration drug. The research used 30 Mangrove snakes. After collected blood and counted Hepatozoon from blood smear. There are 15 Mangrove snakes were infestrated. Mangrove snakes were classified in 3 groups, five snakes in each group: control group, Ivermectin group and Enrofloxacin group. The studied hematological values were hematocrit (percent), plasma protein (g/dl), hemoglobin (g/dl), red blood cell count (*10**(5)/cubic mm)), total white blood count (*10**(3)/cubic mm), differential white blood count: azorophil (percent), heterophil (percent), lymphocyte (percent), eosinophil (percent), basophil (percent) and thrombocyte. Blood smears were graded Hepatozoon infestration of Mangrove snakes in 4 levels: +1 to +4 that show in tables and line charts. The study showed Enrofloxacin can control or decrease Hepatozoon infestration than Ivermectin. This is a primary study to find the efficiency of Hepatozoon anti-infestration drug in Mangrove snakes that can lead the way to find another drug for treatment Hepatozoon in Mangrove snakes and other snakes in the future.
