Result of trials on some maize varieties with high protein quality in Thainguyen province

The comparative trial on high quality protein maize was conducted in Spring and Autumn - Winter, 2002 at Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry with 5 QPM varieties and 2 checks, Q2 (OPV normal)and HQ2000 (hybrid QPM). The research results showed that QPM2 and QPM3 are promising varieties to the pests and major disease; and produced yield up to 4.84 and 4.95 ton/ha (in Spring), to 4.92 and 5.16 ton/ha (in winter), respectively, equivalent to the two checks. Cruised protein content reached 11.1 and 11.4 percent respectively, that are higher than this of check Q2 and equivalent to check HQ2000. Moreover, their lysine content reached 4.1 and 4.3 percent, respectively, higher than two checks.
