The cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover is one of the main pest insects in a number of field and greenhouse agricultural crops. Insecticides are most frequently used for control of the cotton aphid. The pest quickly develops resistant populations and moreover, the use of insecticides leads to contamination of plant production and the environment with residues. This sets the need for alternative methods and approaches which lead to reduction of chemical treatment, one of which is introduction of beneficial organisms. The aim of the present study is to investigate the efficacy of the parasitoid Lysiphlebus testaceipes Cresson against A. gossypii on greenhouse cucumbers for organic production. The results from the experiments carried out show that the introduced parasitoid has succeeded to aclimatize to the conditions in Central South Bulgaria. It is capable of reducing the population density of A. gossypii under the economical threshold of damage during the summer vegetation period. In organic greenhouse production of cucumbers L. testaceipes may be used in combination with emulgated pine oil and neem azal, but it is recommended to apply bioinsecticides before the introduction of the bioagent.
