Comparative testing on large-leaf tobacco cultivars burley type, under the soil and climatic conditions of Plovdiv region

The trial was carried out in the experimental field of the Institute of Tobacco Products, Markovo in 2004-2006. The randomized complete block design with 4 replications and 25 m2 plot size was used. The varieties Burley 1000, Burley 1317 and, Burley 21 - control, were investigated. The aim of this article was to present the results from a comparative investigation on 3 varieties of Burley type tobacco under the soil and climatic conditions of Plovdiv region. The varieties Burley 1000, Burley 1317 are 3-7 days earlier than the control. Highest yields were obtained from Burley 1000, which exceeded the control Burley 21 with 13,2%. Variety Burley 1317, in terms of quality of cured tobacco and chemicals composition, the other exceeded studied varieties.
