[Research of effects of a single external gamma-irradiation on activity of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status in liver and brain of rat with experimental hypothyroidism]

The influence of single external gamma-irradiation at a dose of 1 Gy on lipid peroxidation (LPO) processes and activities of antioxidant enzymes in tissues was investigated in rats with mild hypothyroidism. The present study suggests that the effects of single external y-irradiation on activity of LPO processes in liver was similar for euthyroid and hypothyroid rats and more expressed in brain of hypothyroid rats. The irradiation of animals with hypothyroidism has resulted in infringement the regulatory links between the activities of super-oxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in brain that can be one of the factors contributing this tissue to oxidizing damages
