Seasonal changes in sperm production and quality were assessed in hybrid boars used in artificial insemination during 5 years. The animals were old from 24 to 48 months (n=1,170 ejaculates). The semen gel free volume (SGFV) and sperm concentration were determined immediately after the collection. The ejaculates were divided into four groups according to the season. SGFV was significantly the highest in autumn (355 mL vs. 294 mL in spring and 320 mL in summer). Sperm concentration was significantly the lowest in summer and autumn (277,690 sp./cubic mm and 278,370 sp./cubic mm, respectively, vs. 354,370 sp./cubic mm in winter and 342,530 sp./cubic mm in spring. The number of spermatozoa per ejaculate was significantly the lowest in summer and the highest in winter. The daily output of spermatozoa was significantly higher in autumn than in spring. Our results show that the hot weather had a negative influence on semen production in boars.
