Field experiments were set up during the years 2006-2007 to evaluate the effect of different soil cultivations (A - 1. stubble breaking, 2. mean ploughing, 3. deep ploughing; B - 1. stubble breaking, 2. ploughing up to 0.25 m) on dynamics of inorganic N in the soil (Orthic Luvisol) under sugar beet. Our results confirmed the dependence of dynamic inorganic N forms in the soil on weather conditions, mainly rainfall and soil humidity. The nitrate N dominated during the vegetation period. The soil cultivation did not affect the concentration of inorganic N forms in the soil. Higher concentrations of nitrate N were in the A variant, while the concentrations of ammonium N were higher in the B variant. The proportion of inorganic N forms was favourable for sugar beet quality.
