Resistance of bean genotypes Phaseolus vulgaris (L.) to Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boh., 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) | Resistencia de genotipos de frijol Phaseolus vulgaris (L.) a Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boh., 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

En este trabajo se ha evaluado la posible resistencia de seis genotipos de fríjol Phaseolus vulgaris L. al gorgojo Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman, 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) en condiciones de laboratorio (Temperatura = 25 +/- 2 grados C, Humedad Relativa= 70 +/- 10% y fotoperiodo de 12h). En los ensayos se utilizaron pequeñas cajas de plástico con 10g de granos de los genotipos Onix, IAC-Pérola, Arc.1, Arc.2, Arc.3, y Arc.4. Se pusieron siete parejas del insecto en cada caja, manteniendo la infestación durante una semana. Veinte días después de la liberación se observaron los granos, contando los huevos viables e inviables. Veintisiete días después de la infestación, las evaluaciones de granos fueron diarias, observándose el número de adultos emergidos, la viabilidad de las larvas, el periodo de desarrollo (del huevo al adulto) y el peso de granos consumidos. Los ensayos se realizaron con un diseño experimental completamente aleatorio, con 8 repeticiones. Los resultados mostraron que los genotipos Arc.3, Arc.1, Onix y Arc.4 expresaron la no-preferencia de oviposición como el mecanismo de resistencia al Z. subfasciatus. Los genotipos Arc.1, Arc.2, Arc.3 y Arc.4 expresaron no-preferencia de alimentación y/o antibiosis al gorgojo del fríjol. Los genotipos Pérola y Onix son susceptibles a este insecto y, por tanto más exigentes en el almacenamiento de sus granos.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the possible resistance of six bean genotypes Phaseolus vulgaris L. to bean weevil Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman, 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae) in lab conditions (Temperature = 25 +/- 2 deg C, Relative Humidity = 70 +/- 10% and photoperiod of 12h). The assays were conducted in recipients containing 10g of grains of genotypes Onix, IAC-Pérola, Arc.1, Arc.2, Arc.3, and Arc.4 genotypes, releasing seven pairs of the insect and maintaining the infestation during one week. Twenty days after the releasing, the grains were evaluated, counting the viable and inviable eggs. Twenty seven days after the infestation, the evaluations of grains was daily initiated, observing the number of adults emerged, the larvae viability, the development period (egg to adult) and the weight of grains consumed. The assays were performed in a completely randomized design, with 8 replications. The results showed that Arc.3, Arc.1, Onix and Arc.4 genotypes expressed oviposition non-preference as resistance mechanism to Z. subfasciatus. The Arc.1, Arc.2, Arc.3 and Arc.4 expressed feeding non-preference and/or antibiosis to bean weevil. The Pérola and Onix genotypes are susceptible to this insect, demanding carefulness during the storage of their grains.
