[Nutrient content of porewater and surface water of seagrass bed of East Bintan, Riau (Indonesia)]

Study on the nutrients content of seagrass bed of East Bintan was carried out in July and August 2002. The purpose of this research was to describe the characteristics of nutrients content in porewater and surface water of seagrass bed. Dissolved ammonia, nitrate or nitrite and phosphate in the porewater and surface water in seagrass bed were analyzed. The methods were spectrophotometry. In general, the nutrient in the surface water and porewater in Sungai Jang estuary was lower compared to that of the open coastal. The concentrations of nutrient in the porewater was higher than that surface water of seagrass bed. The ammonia, nitrate/nitrite and phosphate concentrations amongst that area of seagrass bed varied. Physicochemical parameters (temperature, current velocity, transparance, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen) were also measured
