A field experiment was carried out at farmer's field Ikur Koto, Padang district, with the Alluvial soil and Taram, Harau, 50 Kota district, with the Podsolic Soil, West Sumatra during wet season 1999/2000, to determine the effect of root dipping to P and K fertilizers of lowland rice. Seven combinations of root dipping P and K fertilizer were arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. The alluvial soil in Padang contained medium total-N and lower organic-C and ratio C/N. Available-P was low (11.8 ppm P), has medium exchangeable Ca, higher exchangeable Mg, and lower exchangeable K. The available Cu and Zn were high, whereas available Fe was very high. Taram's Podsolic soil, with organic-C, total-N, and ratio C/N were high, medium, and low respectively. The available P was very high, where exchangeable Ca, Mg, and K were very low. The available of Cu, Zn and Fe were very low. At Taram's podsolic soil, the root dipping P and K fertilizer obviously affected the length of panicle and yield, whereas in alluvial soil in Padang did not obviously influence the yield of rice. At Padang's alluvial soil, the higher result gained by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg KCl per hectare + 5 percent root dipping P and by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg SP-36 + 25 kg KCl per hectare + 2.5 percent root dipping P and K fertilizers. At Taram's podsolic soil, the higher result were gained by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg KCl per hectare + 5 percent root dipping P and by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg KCl per hectare + 5 percent root diving P and by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg SP-36 + 25 kg KCl per hectare + 2.5 percent root diving P and K fertilizers. At Taram's podsolic soil, the higher result was obtained by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg KCl per hectare + 5 percent root dipping P then continued by application of 200 kg Urea + 50 kg SP-36 per hectare + 2.5 percent root dipping P and K fertilizers.
