Potential evaluation of entomopathogen Paecylomices fumoso roseus Bainer against diamond back moth Plutella xylostella L. (Lepidoptera; Yponomeutidae)

Biological control of diamond back moth, Plutella xylostella L, is one of the alternative ways to decrease the negative effects of and the dependency on chemical insecticides, Paecylomices fumoso roseus Bainer is a biological agent which is potential controlling pest in tea and quinine plantation. In this experiment, the ability of the fungus in controlling diamond back moth was tested. The experiment was carried out in the Phytopathology Laboratory and green house of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases. Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University from January 2002 to August 2002. The experiment was arranged in the Randomized Block Design, factorial pattern. There were two treatments which have been applied, time of application factor and conidial density factor, time of application factor had two factor levels, they were the application before and after larvae investment. Conidial density factor had five factor levelsthey were conidia suspension of P. fumoso roseus at 10 at the power of 6 conidia/ml, 10 at the power of 8 conidia/ml, 10 at the power of 10 conidia/ml, Bacillus thuringiensis. The experiment results showed that all the treatment combinations of the P. fumoso roseus application were not effective in causing the P. xylostella larvae mortality (the highest mortality of P. xylostella was 46,67 percent and 50, 00 percent, caused by the application of P. fumoso roseus fungus at 10 at the power 8 of and 10 at the power 10 conidial density after larva investment).

Pengendalian hayati hama ulat daun kubis, Plutella xylostella L. adalah salah satu cara alternatif untuk mengurangi dampak negatif dan ketergantungan terhadap penggunaan insektisida kimia. Jamur Paecylomices fumoso roseus Bainer adalah agen hayati yang berpotensi dalam pengendalian hama di perkebunan teh dan kina. Pada percobaan ini jamur tersebut diuji kemampuannya untuk mengendalikan hama ulat daun kubis. Percobaan dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Fitopatologi dan rumah Kaca Jurusan Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Padjadjaran dari bulan Januari 2002 sampai dengan Agustus 2002. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan adalah metode eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok pola faktorial. Perlakuan yang dicobakan terdiri atas dua faktor yaitu faktor waktu aplikasi dan faktor kerapatan konidia. Faktor waktu aplikasi memiliki dua taraf faktor, yaitu aplikasi sebelum infestasi larva dan setelah infestasi larva. Faktor kerapatan konidia memiliki lima taraf faktor yaitu suspensi konidia jamur P. fumoso roseus pada kerapatan 10 pangkat 6 konidia/ml, 10 pangkat 8 konidia/ml, 10 pangkat 10 konidia/ml, Bacillus thuringiensis dan kontrol. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa dari seluruh kombinasi perlakuan jamur P. fumoso roseus yang diuji tidak terdapat hasil yang efektif terhadap mortalitas larva P. xylostella (mortalitas larva P. xylostella yang tertinggi diakibatkan oleh aplikasi jamur P. fumoso roseus pada kerapatan konidia 10 pangkat 8 dan 10 pangkat 10 setelah infestasi larva dengan persentase mortalitas larva P.xylostella sebesar 46,67 persen dan 50,00 persen.
