[Developing agricultural system and superior commodities at Toli-Toli and Buol Regency, Central Sulawesi (Indonesia) by agroecological zone approach]

The objectives of this work were to gather information on bio-physical land condition and climate to be used as the basis for developing agricultural system on the region concerned. The data obtained showed a great variation in the rainfall in Toli-Toli and Buol regencies. The region had two district seasons, rainy and drought seasons. Ecologically, the regions were divided into several zones. Zone I was suitable for forest crops such as rattan, fir, and pines. Zone II and III were suitable for cocoa, coconut, coffee and clove trees. Zone IV consisted of 3 subzones: subzones IV ax 2 (dry land), subzone IV ax 1.i (irrigated rice field), and subzone IV ax 1 (rainfed rice field). Zone V was suitable for pasture land and zone VI was appropriate for fishery but could be developed for food and plantation crops by emphying specific technology. The prime crops of Toli-Toli were rice and clove trees. This region also had beef cattle and sea fish farming. Buol was the centre of groundnut, cocoa, goat, and sea fish farming.
