Abstract The nine- Iranian and thirtyseven- Improted cultivars of alfalfa were studied as a field experiment from 1996 to 1998 in Khouzestan Agricultral research center. This study was based on an observant method and no statistical analysis was used. The studied traits were fresh and dry forage yield, leaf/ stem ratio, Number of cutting, dry forage yield per cutting andheight of plant.Mean of biennial yield showed that Pacific 9110 and Trompetor (two of foreign cultivars) with 15.7 and 5.9 Ton. ha -1 had highest and lowest yield respectively. In comparison of leaf/ stem ration among other cultivars Trompetor and sequel, Daisy had the highest and lowest amount respectively. The correlation coefficients, calculated for the traits and results showed that significant possitive correlations existed between Dry forage and Number of cutting per year. General results of this experiment revealed that foreign cultivars pacific 9110, C. W. 755 and CV. 93 131 were the best cultivars among all of them.
