Study of effect of silicon using on the growth and yield of rice (Oriza Sativa L.)

The rice plant need the silicon element more than other nutrition elements, however , the essentially of silicon has not been known. To study of beneficial effects of silicon on the growth and yield of rice were carried out a completely randomized block design as factorial in the paddy field of deputy of rice research institute at 2001-2002. The Tarom and Nemat varieties ,respectively, as a local and a high-yielding variety, including of four levels of silicate fertilizer (0,200,400,600 kg/ha of sodium silicate) were the treatments level. The silicate fertilizer was given in base and 30 days fater transplanting. Potash and phosphate fertilizer were given the amount of 100 to 150 kg/ha, respectively. The urea fertilizer was given a 100 kg/ha for Tarom variety and 160 kg/ha for Nemat variety as base and top dressing. The other aronomy management was carried out the base of the recommendation of Institute. The measurement of plant height, tiller number, dry weight of leaf, stem and total were done in the flowering and physiological maturity stages. The silicon concentration of leaf and stem were measured in two stages as well. The yield and yield components obtained with sampling . The data were analyzed the base of design and mean comparison were done by duncan method. The results showed that silicon used as sodium silicate fertilizer was not significantly different on the plant height, tiller number, dry weight of leaf and stem and yield. The measurement of the amount of silicon in soil, have shown that the amount of SiO2 was 169 mgr/kg, therefore, it seem that the field experimental of deputy institute has not been silicon deficiency.
