Study on amount of losses and factors effect on severity infection of rhizomania disease Rhizomania is one of the more devastating of all sugar beet disease. Infections with this disease can lead to severe losses in root yield (RY) and sugar content (SC). In this research, in order to study some quantitative and qualitative characteristics of sugar beet cultivars, some susceptible and resistant cultivars were cultivated under infested and non- infested conditions at Zarghan station- Fars Agricultural Research Center. In 1999, sugar yield losses of PP8, PP22 and IC1 cultivars in infested field due to the disease was up to 100% and these cultivars didn`t had yield. In this trail only Dorothea cultivar remained. In 2000, 10 cultivars were cultivated in both infested and non- infested field experiments. In infested field Dorothea gained the most root yield (RY) and Gina gained the most white sugar yield (WSY). In this trail when averaged across all cultivars, rhizomania decreased RY 28%, sugar content (SC) 23%, and WSY 46%. In 2001, in order to eradication of agent of disease in soil, fumigation of soil is done with metyl bromide. 7233 cultivar in fumigated soil had RY 51/78 , SC 11/85% and WSY , as this cultivar in non- fumigated soil had no yield. In 2002, some commercial cultivars were cultivated under low and severe rhizomania conditions. In these trails, only Rhizofort cultivar showed tolerance to disease. The results of this research showed that many of commercial cultivars are susceptible to rhizomania and in infested condition produce a low yield.
