Study on effects of different tillage and planting methods on safflower yield in dry lands

In order to determine proper tillage for planting of safflower, this experiment was conducted by RCBD with 4 replications with 4 treatments in rotations with wheat- safflower system for 4 years. Tillage was done after harvesting of wheat. Treatments were: T1= Moldboard plow (20 cm) in fall + fertilizer and seed broadcasting by hand and cowering by disk harrow (check), T2= remove stubble in fall + direct planting by drill in spring, T3= remove stubble, power harrow (rotary harrow) 5-10cm in fall + planting by drill in spring, T4= chisel plow (20cm) and disk harrow (5-10 cm) in fall + planting by seed drill in spring. Safflower (2811 (ARAK) variety) planted by seed drill (Kesht Gostar with 50 cm row space) with 14 kg/ha (44 seed per meter square) seed rate and fertilizer applied as station recommendation. Data of four years was analyzed with MSTAT– C. The results showed that, there was significant difference at P1% between yield of treatments, T4 treatment (chisel plow) with 0.929 ton/ha had the highest grain yield compared to others. In addition grain oil % and yield component yield between treatments was significant difference at P1% and T4 treatment increased oil content compared to other treatments.
