Low emergence rate of some crope due to soil crust formation is one of the major problemes in Isfahan province. Machanical crust breaking, reducing irrigation priod, use of chemical, soil amendments and increasing organic maters are ways to prevent formation of the crust layer or amenliorate it's effect after formation. However, shortage of water and high cost of implementing these methods do not justify it"s economic return. Observation indicated a varity of cracking potern in the soil after irrigation and allowing seedling to come out from these cracks. A field experiment was conducted to determine the effect different methods on crack development along the seed rows and it"s impact on sugar beet emergence. The experiment carried out in Roodasht Research station locted at 65 Kilometers east of Isfahan in silty clay soil in 2002, 2003. A factorial treatment arrangement with three replications in randomized complet block design was used. The effects of rolling methods (3 levels), planter type (2 levels) and depth of planting (2 levels) were studied in 2002. In 2003 the effect of planting systems (2levels) and type of press whell (3 level) were investigated. In first year the interaction effect between yoling methods and planting systems was significant on the sugar beet emergence and crack development along the seed rows. Effect of planting depth on crack formation and sugar beet emergence was not significant. In "2003"conic press wheel (60 and 120 apex angle) caused an acceptable value on cracking along the seed rows and increased signifantly stand stablishment index compared Zero- pressure pneumatic press whell. There was not significant difference the effect of two conic press whells on crack formation and plant stand estabshment.
