In order to determination of suitable foreign maize hybrids for direct as well as indirect use in maize program, 15 foreign hybrids were compared with three local commercial hybrids in seven Iranian locations, Karaj, Shiraz, Dezful, Kermanshah, Isfehan, Kerman(Orzooyieh) and Gharakhil, in 2004. Randomized complete block design with four replications used in each location. According to the combined analysis, there were significant differences among locations and hybrids for all traits. Hybrid x location interaction was significant for all studied traits except 1000 kernel weight and kernel number per ear row. Highest correlation revealed for grain yield with 1000 kernel weight and kernel number per ear row, while, there was no significant correlation between grain yield and kernel row number per ear. In general, the highest grain yield harvested from hybrids OSSK602(11.820 t/ha), BC678(11.520 t/ha), SPX1043(11.350 t/ha) and BC666(11.200 t/ha). The highest stability of yield showed by hybrids OSSK602 and OSSK617. Hybrids BC666 and SPX1043 were in second place from grain yield stability point of view. Hybrid BC678 showed less stability using different stability parameters.
