Study on seed and oil yield and other agronomic traits of safflower varieties and lines in fall planting in the semi-cold areas under rain-fed conditions.

Safflower wnter planting in semi-cold areas of Iran always has more seed yield as compare to spring planting. It has suitable adaptability to drylands and can place in rotation with wheat and checkpea very well. This study carried out with 19 promising varieties of safflower along with two checks (Zarghan 279 and PI-537598) in 3 locations vizKermanshah, Ilam and lorestan under rainfed condition. This experiment conducted in RCBD with 3 replications. Each variety was planted in 5 rows with 6 m length and 30 cm row spacing. During growth period some agronomic characters and after harvesting seed weight, seed and oil yield have been measured. The results showed that grand mean of seed and oil yield in Lorestan was more than other two locations. Range of seed yield was 867.3 – 1689 Kg/ha that belonged to 267-s-6/20 and local Kordustan genotypes, respectively. The minimum and maximum oil yield was also belong to these two genotypes with 226.6 and 507.9 Kg/ha, respectively. The results of ranking method showed that 386 genotypes with 2.33 rank had the best seed yield position as compare to other genotypes. Local Kordustan with 2 rank had the best oil yield position as compare to other genotypes. High oil yield in local Kordustan was due to high oil content (30.15 per cent) in this genotype. Generaly results showed that local Kordustan, 386, 411, spinless No. 2, 357/S6/697, 62 and 27-N-825 were the superior genotypes and selected along with other 7 genotypes to more studies in future trails.
