The effect of greenhouse thermal and humidity changes on population growth of Macrosiphoniella sanborni Gillette (Hom., Aphididae)

Chrysanthemum aphid, Microsiphoniella sanborni is an important pest of different varieties of chrysanthemum flowers in most parts of the world, especially in Asia . In addition to direct damage, this species can cause indirect damage by transmitting important and destructive viruses. In this research, biological characteristics of chrysanthemum aphid were determined in greenhouse in three different conditions. The conditions of experiment were 24°C and RH 35%; 28°C and RH 35% and 28°C and RH 65%. Photoperiod in all experiments was 16L: 8D. Developmental time, daily fecundity, total fecundity and adult longevity in 24°C and RH 35% were 10.28 day, 2.35 number, 29.3 number and 23.6day; in 28°C and RH 35% were 8.34day, 3.14number, 31.22 number and 18.89 day and in 28°C and RH 65% were 8.81 day, 3.36 number, 31.5 number and 18.4 day, respectively. The results showed that developmental time had significant difference in 24°C and RH 35% with other conditions. M. sanborni reacted to the change of temperature (up to 24°C) with decreasing in developmental time, but in 28°C, change of humidity rate had no significant effect. In this research, temperature changes had no significant effect on fecundity of chrysanthemum aphid. Adult longevity in 24°C was significantly more than other conditions. Consequently, it can be resulted that maximum rate of fecundity of M. sanborni was in T 28°C and different rates of relative humidity had no significant effect on biological parameters of this aphid.
